Take Me Out to the Ballgame

It’s baseball season …and well, it’s no secret that I’m not a BIG sports fan!

…at least not watching it on TV …BORING

but I do love going to the games …people watching, the junk food, I guess I’m more of an experience kinda girl …really don’t care too much about the game.

My Michael and I love to go to the Springfield Cardinals games. We do so every chance we get. The stadium if fabulous (it’s where we are standing in the pict on the banner of my blog) and the fun and games between innings is so much fun …and yes, I do get one of those really fattening and unhealthy hotdogs with the grilled onions ~ every time.

Yes, every time.

In fact, we are going tonight with all the Convoy of Hope families …and yes, I will eat one of those hotdogs.

So when my brother posted my great-nephews first T-ball picts and I saw he was a Cardinal …it  made my heart skip a beat.

I love this kid, this little Mason, oh he’s not little ~ he’s BIG – he let’s you know that right away.

…and he is definitely the cutest ever to wear a Cardinals uniform.

…and to that there is no denying.

Inked up Christians

It seems everywhere you look you see a tattoo these days.

Young/Old, Short/Tall, Fat/Skinny…doesn’t seem to matter that age, gender, or size of the tattooee (is that a word?!)

So what is this obsession American has with the TATTOO? I mean we are a Christian America…right?

Is it ok for Christians to have tattoos?

There is a major debate over this question…

Some would say they use their tattoos as a witnessing tool. Many Christians today are tattooing themselves not in tribute to a false idol or anti-Christian deity, but with love for the one true God and Creator. Read more here.

Tattoo is not for everyone, and is certainly not for a Christian who feels unconvinced that getting a tattoo is completely Biblical. In this and many areas of the Christian life there are many truly excellent believers who have varying degrees of agreement and disagreement about Christians with tattoos.

The Narrow Way Christian Riders make this statement about Christian Ink:

What does JESUS think about INK? Most “religious” people, like the Pharisees, have a problem with tattoos. They use Leviticus 19:28 that says …”Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.” …as their reason. These same people wear polyester/cotton blend clothes…” Continue reading this article here…

Our local newspaper recently ran a story that lends to the whole TATTOO debate  : Christian Ink

Tattoos have been debated among many Christians, especially evangelical Protestants, citing various biblical passages — including Leviticus 19:28 and 1 Corinthians 6:19 — to support a prohibition on the body markings.

But Christians, young and old, male and female, sporting tattoos have been an increasingly more common sight in churches today.  Continue reading this article here…

Is it the small town rural church pastor that is against tattoos? …I found that not to be the case…

I guess the debate continues …as more and more Christians continue to get tattoos

…what do you think?

As I sat in a memorial service this morning, remembering and honoring a very special man of God, the thought kept crossing my mind:

…what will they say about me when I’m gone?

James K. Bridges was  husband, a father, a grandpa, he was a preacher of the Word, an author, he loved to joke and laugh, he was a pastor, a district superintendent, and a general treasurer for the Assemblies of God…

…but first and foremost he was known as a man of God.

I had the utmost respect for James K. Bridges.  Remembering for me …was how he loved being a judge at our annual  GPH chili cook-offs! (One year we failed to plan a cook-off …and yes, I did hear about that from him!) Remembering for me …was how he hated being in my fashion show when we changed up the AGHQ dress code! He so didn’t want to model the new look …but he did so willingly for the employees with a smile on his face (and a tie in his pocket!) He didn’t wear the tie…but he had it with him! Remembering for me …was how he had time to listen to me …on the occasions I would visit his office whether it be work related or personal …he would listen and give me advice from the wealth of wisdom he had acquired from his years of serving his heavenly father. On one occasion, when I so needed someone to talk to I remember walking into his office …and he immediately knew what I was there for and he just cried with me …yes, this leader, this executive in our fellowship …cried with me. That spoke more to me that he would ever know …He just cared.

My hope, my prayer …is that when I’m gone people will know me not as just the wife, the mother, or the fashionista I try to be (and the emphasis is totally on “try!”) …or the baker, or the dog lover, or the girl who loves her coffee, or the one who loves to be crazy and have fun …although I’m sure those are things people may think of

…but

…I want to be remembered first and foremost as a woman of God …not perfect by any means – but I so want to live my life as this man of God did – as non-wavering in my faith – steadfast in my values – and passing on a legacy to my family.
